Sorry, we have been on the quiet side over the summer but it has been a busy few weeks. Often the busier we get the less prone we are to spend time in prayer, but this was not the example of Jesus. Despite swards of people coming to him for healing and the crowds continuously pursuing him, ‘Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed’ (Luke 5:16). This has been a stark reminder to us and a challenge that despite the business of life we must not neglect the importance of prayer.
Edinburgh Convention
July began with Edinburgh Convention, and many spoke of how they were encouraged, challenged, and refreshed and we praise God that one woman trusted the Lord. We were particularly encouraged by the number of people who showed a desire to prayerfully support the highland district.
Camps
Convention led straight into camp and we give thanks to God for answered prayer. The 20 children at our junior camp, soaked in the teaching as Phillippa Cismas took us through Daniel and Carol Cummings shared a missionary story in the evenings, we are grateful for their input. Many good discussions were had as they shared what they had learned from God’s word. It was a joy to see the smile on one girl’s face who had arrived at camp without a bible when she was told it was hers to keep at the end of the week.
We had a good teens week and we are thankful to Noel Bell for his teaching that was very relevant for young Christians today, Russel Newton for his ‘Snapshots of Faith’ which were very challenging, and Justin Cummings for his direct gospel talks in the mornings. The topic of making a stand for Christ came up several times, and a number discussed the difficulties they face as young Christians, we believe that many of them were encouraged during the week and went home with a desire to live for Jesus. On the last night one lad said he had given his life to the Lord, please pray for this young man that he would know assurance of salvation and grow in his walk with the Lord, he is from a non-Christian home.
Culbokie Holiday Bible Club
At the beginning of August, we helped at a holiday club run by our local church. Jeff shared
the teaching with 28 children over the course of the week. Our own children were excited that some of their friends from school came along, and there was a great opportunity to meet local parents. Please pray for continued contact, and that the seeds sown through the word of God, which is sharper than any two-edged sword would continue to speak into their young lives.
Lossiemouth Tent Mission
This Thursday (24th Aug) Jeff heads to Lossiemouth to set up the tent for a two-week mission that begins on the 27th of August. Wesley Brewer, William Harrison, and Donnie MacLeod will be involved in helping and preaching. Please pray that they would each know the Lord’s help. There will be a meeting each night at 7.30 except for Saturdays and a coffee morning on Fridays, please pray that local believers would be burdened to reach friends and neighbors and that many unsaved would come in. We also hope to be involved in door-2-door work and street café, pray for God-given opportunities.
We are very grateful for your interest in the work of the Faith Mission in the Highlands and we do not take for granted your prayerful support. We would really value it if you would take it upon your hearts to pray for the Lossiemouth mission over the next couple of weeks as we long that Lord would come through the power of the Holy Spirit and save many lost souls.
Yours in Christ
Jeff and Sarah Townend
News from Fort William
Justin and Carol write:
Give thanks for a wee unchurched girl who attended our holiday club in Fort William at the beginning of August. She is reading her own Bible and we have given her more books to explain the gospel. We also give thanks for two people who gave their lives to the Lord after meetings we took, one last year and one several years ago, praise God they were both baptized in the last few weeks and are going on with the Lord.
Please pray for an unsaved man who shared some of the problems he is facing with Justin at a lunch outreach. He attended two open-airs that Justin spoke at and commented that he felt God pulling at his heartstrings. Pray also for SU which restarts in the local High School this term, pray that new kids will attend and that those who came along last school year will come back again.
We are involved on a weekly basis with Road to Recovery, a meeting for those who are facing addiction problems. Please pray for five unsaved folks who recently came along, and especially one man whom Justin has had dealings with in the past who has just started coming along.
Please pray for listeners as Justin speaks on the local radio’s ‘Thought for Today’. Thousands listen that are not saved. The ladies Bible study at Kilmallie Free Church restarts next week, Carol leads this. Justin is the Chaplin at Fort William Shinty Club and has had the opportunity to speak to several people about the Lord, and counsel others with different needs. Pray God would break into the player’s and manager’s lives.
Thank you for your continued prayers
Justin and Carol Cummings
